Big Night of Football at Arafura Games 2009

Wed, May 13 2009

Territorians were treated to five excellent football matches last night as the Football competition at Arafura Games 2009 moved up a gear.

In the Men’s U18 NT Boys 16 and Aceh ended their game in a 2-all draw, with Aceh’s Hendra Yani and Abdul Hafid scoring a goal apiece and Athan Paradisis kicking the ball in twice for NT Boy’s.

Timor Leste defeated competition favourite Macau 2-0 in a hard fought match that saw Nazario Carmo and Lamberto Gamo scoring for the Timorese team.

In a high-scoring match NT Boys won 6-3 against the Borroloola Cyclones, who were not disgraced on the field of play.

In the 7 A Side football competition arch rivals Australia and England played a nilall draw and Japan defeated Korea 2-1.

In the women’s football matches PNG trounced the FICA Women’s team 11-0 aggressively pushing the play to the FICA goal and never leaving the PNG goal mouth open.

In the last match of the night the Australian Defence Force Team won 4-2 over NT Women in a match where the score line did not do justice to the calibre of the football played.

Football kicks off at 4:30pm on Wednesday when Macau meets NT Boy’s 16’s, NT Boys play Timor Leste and Borroloola faces up against Aceh in the Men’s U18, and Australia meets Korea and Japan plays England in 7 A Side.
