Early Birthday Present for Tennis Coach
Fri, May 15 2009
Palmerston tennis coach Daniel Parker gave himself an early birthday present this evening by winning the Arafura Games singles title at the Gardens Tennis Centre.
Parker, who will be 22 on Monday, finished strongly to defeat 16-year-old Mohamad Aiman Abdullah of Brunei 7/5 6/2.
As he left the court after what was a hard fought match, Parker said it had been “a tiring and sore tussle but gold is a good birthday present.”
Abdullah, urged on by a small group of Brunei colleagues, battled gamely against a bigger and more experienced opponent.

Men’s singles semi-finals: Daniel Parker (Palmerston) d. Manuel Soares (Timor Leste) 6/2 6/2; Mohamad Aiman Abdullah (Brunei) d. Nathan Hawke (Darwin) 6/1 6/0. Final: Daniel Parker d. Abdullah 7/6 6/2.
