Emma Kraft in the Hunt for Third Gold at Arafura Games 2009
Tue, May 12 2009
Alice Springs runner Emma Kraft has bagged two golds at the Arafura Games 2009 and is looking to add to her cache with gold in tonight’s 5000m.
“Last time I came fourth in the 3000 ‘cause I felt burnt out from running the 800 two hours earlier,” she said after her monumental win Monday night.
“I am happy to have a day’s rest before this event.”
Victory in the 3000m metres is ever so sweet for Ms Kraft since this is her third attempt at winning the event at the Games.
A food and nutrition lecturer at the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education in Alice Springs, the long-distance specialist is ranked 22nd in Australia.
Ms Kraft beat fellow Territorian Hillary Bloomfield across the line, followed by East Timorese runner Marquita dos Santos.
Ms Kraft stands in the blocks again tonight at 8:30pm for the Women’s 5000m Final at Arafura Stadium in the Marrara Sports Precinct.
