Fierce Competition in Boxing at Arafura Games 2009 Tonight

Wed, May 13 2009

More than 400 spectators watched another class night of boxing on Tuesday with 15 matches played throughout the evening at Arafura Games 2009.

In the first fight of the night, a Light Flyweight (48kg) bout between Lui Magaiva from PNG and Frejhon Sahuleka from Indonesia, Sahuleka won in a standout 15/0 result, but both boxers performed beyond expectation.

The closest fight of the night was the first of the Light Heavyweight bouts between Michael Sacco of the Northern Territory and Adrian Andrews from Queensland. Saccol eventually won the tough bout by a 8/7 points decision.

The Irish team kept on its winning way with all three of their boxers scoring by large points margins.

Tonight will be another top fight night with the first bout for the women boxers.

Eighteen-year-old Australian Sam Ah-See from the National Talent Indigenous Development Team is boxing against Thai boxer Apichet Saenset in what should be a tough 69kg Welterweight battle.

Both of these boxers have been successful in the past. Ah-See won the silver medal for the 69kg Welterweight Division in the Kings Cup this year and Saenset won gold in the 64kg Light Welterweight Division. The next round of Boxing competition starts at 6pm on Wednesday.
