First Medals Won in 10am Men’s Air Rifle
Sat, May 09 2009
The first medals of the Arafura Games 2009 were won this afternoon at Micket Creek Shooting Complex in Berrimah by a 21-year-old from Victoria.
Chris Boyle took gold over Darwin shooter Chris Harding, 31 years his senior, with a handy total of 548. Silver medallist Harding scored 543.
The bronze medal went to Indonesian national Amar Makruf from Aceh, who scored 541.
The low-scoring contest was close throughout with Mr Boyle shooting low-10s and high-nines in the final shoot-off, and although he fired a disappointing seven on his final shot it was enough to win gold.
The Shooting – Pistol/Air Rifle will continue tomorrow, starting at 8:00am.
