Sepak Takraw Pulls Chinese National Team for Arafura Games 2009
Mon, May 11 2009
A surprise late entry in Arafura Games 2009 is the national Sepak Takraw team from China, who will play the Singapore A team in what promises to be a high energy competition at the Darwin Convention Centre.
According to Steven Svensson of the NT Sepak Takraw Association the games scheduled for Arafura Games 2009 competition will have the audience on their feet cheering on the combatents.
“We have a small but great group of players,” he said. “The Northern Territory team started form scratch a year ago and are now really competitive, which goes to show that only in Darwin can you go from zero to hero.”
“Japan are back. They have never missed a Sekap Takraw tournament in the Arafura Games since the sport was introduced in 1991.
“But it is Singapore Police with their 18 players and the Chinese that will be the teams to beat.”
On Monday the games get underway at 5:00pm with Northern Territory playing Singapore, followed by Singapore C vs Japan, Singapore A vs China, Singapore B vs Northern Territory, Singapore C vs Singapore A, China vs Singapore B and Japan vs Northern Territory.
