Softball Medal Round Continues Saturday at Arafura Games

Fri, May 15 2009

Leading off the softball competition Friday evening were the All Stars and NT. With the scene already set for these two teams to meet in the gold medal match Saturday, both teams used this game as a chance to stretch their legs and feel out the opposition.

NT started strong scoring three runs in the first innings off All Stars pitcher, Michelle Krauer.

There were safe hits a plenty from the NT girls with most runners crossing home plate multiple times. No innings was left untouched by the batting sides with runs scored in every innings.

“Kaara Ainslie and Michelle Maynard were our top players on the night,” said NT coach Teri Cubillo. “Kaara recorded three safe hits and Michelle pitched four strike outs.

“Bianca Scrymgour from the All Stars team also deserves a mention with three safe hits of her own.”

Steve Bell, coach for the All Stars, said “it wasn’t a great game from the team, but all the girls got a run tonight. NT was just better on the day.”

NT held up to win the game 11 runs to six.

All Stars and NT meet again Saturday to play off for gold and silver at 6.30pm at Tracy Village Sporting Ovals. Preceding this match will be ADO versus NT Composite playing for the bronze medal at 4.30pm.

Results:
NT vs All Stars - NT won 11 runs to 6
ADO vs Composite - ADO won 13 runs to 0
