Timor Leste Undefeated and Playing for Gold

Thu, May 14 2009

Timor Leste is undefeated after five competition rounds in Arafura Games football and will be playing for gold in Darwin on Saturday night.

The final will be against either Macau or Aceh who meet later tonight.

Timor Leste captain Barbosa Anggisu was full of confidence late this afternoon after a 7-2 win over Borroolola.

Anggisu said: “It doesn’t matter who we play in the final, we will win. In the past week we have beaten Aceh 4-0 and Macau 2-0.”

Timor Leste came through the game against Borroolola with a few minor injuries but will have all players available for Saturday.

Borrolola’s coach Glen Thompson was full of praise for his young players who scored the first goal of the game against Timor Leste and were trailing only 2-4 half way through the second half.

Thompson, who has been maintenance officer at Borroolola School for 28 years, said it had been a “big, big week” for the team, which had travelled 1,400km to take part in the Arafura Games.

“We had no benchmark to work on and we didn’t know what to expect. We started brilliantly but injuries and a lack of fitness took its toll on our performance.”
