Less than 24 hours till ICEHOUSE plays
Fri, May 06 2011
Less than 24 hours prior to the grand opening of the 2011 Arafura Games, iconic Australian band ICEHOUSE rocked TIO Stadium in an exciting stage reunion during the ceremony’s final dress rehearsal.
Celebrating 30 years since the legendary band changed their name from Flowers to ICEHOUSE, front man and lead singer Iva Davies said he was excited about being back on stage with his band for a “great occasion like the Arafura Games”.
“We very rarely play together,” he said. “It will be great to be on stage again with the band.”
Although struggling with the Territory heat the singer said he loved being in Darwin for the Opening Ceremony of the Games.
“It’s wonderful to be here,” he said. “Darwin is a great place.”
The singer said while he was looking forward to being the main act in the 2011 Arafura Games Opening Ceremony, he was “very nervous”.
“On big occasions like this I’m very nervous,” he said. “But it’s also fantastically exciting.”
Iva Davies and ICEHOUSE will be performing alongside Darwin darling Jessica Mauboy, Tiwi Island band B2M and Saltwater Band lead singer Manuel Dhurrkay in the show which marks the beginning of the biennial week-long sporting event. More than 2400 athletes from over 40 nations will be competing in 20 sports at venues across Greater Darwin – admission to all sporting events is free.
