Lift breaks Commonwealth Record

In a spectacular second day of Arafura weightlifting World record holder Peter Yukio, Nauru, has not only lifted more than double his body weight, but also broke his personal best and the Commonwealth record.

Under the watchful eyes of fellow Nauruan Hon. Vinson Detenamo, Nauru, President of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation, Yukio lifted 140kg comfortably in the first round.

The 26-year-old raised the weight on the bar to 150kg before lifting 155kg in the thrid round, lifting 3.1kg more than double his body weight ot 76.9kg and beating the Commonweath record by 2kg.

Earlier in the competitions Australia’s Jake Ratcliffe failed to lift 85kg in his second attempt.

Papua New Guinea’s Sogo Grox also failed at 85kg, but lifted 88kg in his third round.
