Muay Thai finals thrill fanatic fans

Darwin's Spectrum Stadium was filled with the cheer of more than 500 spectators who jumped right behind their favourites in the 2011 Arafura Games Muay Thai finals tonight.

In the 75kg division Asian champion Artur Kodirkulov, from Uzbekistan, took on African champion Jarred Rothwell, of South Africa, and beat him in four rounds for the coveted Gold Medal.

Despite getting knocked to the ground Australian champion and bronze World Championship winner Kate Heuston fought a tough match against Asian champion Pannaluk Kongsang, of Thailand, and won gold in the 57kg female weight division.

In the fight of the night - the Pro bout NT Cup - Alice Springs fighter Blade Augey beat Darwin’s James Pile in four rounds.

"It was pretty cool," Augey said.

"But I've had tougher fights before."
