Singh the King looking for Arafura Games win

Thu, May 12 2011

India's boxing superstar Vijender Singh tonight went for a casual run along Darwin's foreshore in preparation for his semi-final bout tomorrow night at the 2011 Arafura Games.

After his 18-6 points win against Western Australia's Jeremy van Diemen on Tuesday the 25-year-old Olympic bronze medallist is optimistic about winning gold in Darwin.

"I think about being the best - that's how I win," he said.

"I am the champion - Singh is king."

The superstar's manager, Parmod Bajaj said since Singh's legendary fight at the Beijing Olympics, boxing in India had become "really important".

"And because of Vijender India has changed," he said.

Singh will be fighting New Zealander Sam Rapira in tomorrow's bout in the Light Heavyweight.

"I am going to win - that's what I came here for," he said.
