Singh will win
Thu, May 12 2011
King Singh – India’s superstar boxer Vijender Singh – will be back in the ring at the 2011 Arafura Games tonight (about 9pm Australian Central Standard Time) and he’s in for a win.
His coach said he was “happy” with today’s draw that will see New Zealand’s Sam Rapira take on the Olympic bronze medalist and India’s hope for gold in the 2012 London Olympics.
“Vijender will win,” Jagdip Hooda said.
“He is here to win and he’s good enough to beat anyone.”
Singh assured himself of at least a bronze medal in his first ever international competition in the light heavyweight (81kg) category after winning against Western Australia boxer Jeremy van Diemen 18-6 in his opening bout earlier this week.
Tipped to be in the ring with Singh for the fight for gold is Queenland’s Damien Hooper, who will tonight be fighting Indonesia’s David Isikiwar.
Session 8 starts at 7pm tonight at Arafura Central.
Tonight’s Hooper and Singh semi-finals will be broadcasted worldwide live on
