Wed, May 11 2011
The Top End High Performance Youth Squad (TEHPYS) were ruled out of the running for a medal this morning when fifth placed team PNG Hebou Hammer (all out for 119) defeated the Youth Squad (all out for 100) in the Twenty20 cricket competition.
The PNG Hammer played consistently posting a total of 119 with J. Vara top scoring making 34 runs.
TEHPYS’s stand out bowler for the match was S. Smith who took 4 wickets in 2 overs for 9 runs followed by T. Mullen who took 3 wickets in 4 overs for 26 runs.
The Youth Squad started strongly with Ben Cooper smashing 36 runs however the rest of the line-up failed to fire and the Top End Squad lost quick wickets until they were all out for 100 runs.
The loss means that the Top End High Performance Squad drops down to fifth place on the points table ruling them out of the semi finals that commence tomorrow morning.
In another match Championship favourites, PNG Crocs (5/112) won against Australian Services (8/109) cementing their top position on the ladder on 20 points.
The result from the Australian Indigenous Development v SM Sains Raub match scheduled this afternoon will not affect the semi finals line up that commences tomorrow morning:
Semi Final 1: PNG Crocs v PNG Hebou Hammer (Marrara Cricket Ground 1, 9.30am)
Semi Final 2: Australian Indigenous Development v Australian Services (Nightcliff Oval, 9.30am)
