Chief Minister’s Message

The Arafura Games is a remarkable success story. In May 1991 the first Arafura Games, then known as the “Arafura Sports Festival”, was staged in Darwin with athletes participating from seven countries. In 2007 the Arafura Games included participants from some 42 countries. In 2007 the Games incorporated the Oceania Open Paralympic Championships for the first time and was conducted under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee.
