Arafura Games

Darwin has a tropical climate and the seasons are largely dictated by the monsoon cycle.  Europeans generally refer to ‘the wet’ (October to March) and ‘the dry’ (April to September).

Arafura Games is held during the dry season when the conditions are ideal for outdoor competition. During May, the temperature averages 31°C (88 F) during the day with the average humidity around 43% in the afternoon, and 21°C (69F) during the night.

Due to our tropical climate it is important that you drink lots of water throughout the day and always prior, during and after sporting competition. Sun protection such as sunscreen and protective clothing is recommended in our tropical climate to protect your skin.
