Education
education.jpgOpening Ceremony: Rehearsals are being held for the purpose of finding and developing suitable assistants/performers for the entertainment segments of the Opening Ceremony. Open to people, aged 10 years or more and who are keen to participate in a large scale and exciting event, the rehearsals are being held over the School Term / Easter break (8-13 April) with guest choreographer, Trevor Green. Further rehearsals will scheduled closer to the Opening Ceremony which happens on 9 May.
Potential performers who were unable to audition in February are encouraged to call and leave message for Peter on 89205517 (BH) or email peter.stretton@nt.gov.au and arrange to join rehearsals in April and be a part of something very special.

Adopt a Country: 27 countries have been adopted by 23 schools located between Katherine and Darwin and are now creating their banners along with the assistance from artist, Janie Andrews. The banners will represent the fauna-flora of their chosen country and will feature in the Athletes March Past at the Opening Ceremony on 9 May with school representatives carrying them on in front of their country team. During the Games the banners will be on display at Arafura Central, Marrara, and then returned to the schools.

Arafura Alive: Is a form of mini Arafura Games in which primary school students have the opportunity to experience various sports on show at the Games. It will be at Marrara Sports Precinct and is planned for March 19 and 20. Update information is available from Natalie McMaster, Education Officer, PE, DET via telephone 8999 4252 and/or 0438 887 869.

Some schools are already exploring how they can involve their students in the sport activities taking place during the Games (9-17 May). Schools are invited to attend the sports as an audience or to play assistant roles especially for the Athletes With Disability (AWD) events. As the event program is finalised just prior to the Games commencing, schools can attain updated information by contacting Peter, our Education Coordinator and also checking local media.

Over the next few weeks you will be able to find information regarding especially devised Study Units on the Arafura Games website. These units deal with numerous aspects of the Arafura Games, sport and health, cover all band levels and are available for teachers to directly access and enhance their curriculum.
