Athletics General Information

Competition Dates: Track and Field - 8 - 11 May, Half Marathon - 14 May
Competition Venue: Arafura Stadium, Marrara Sports Complex / East Point (Half Marathon)
Gold Medals: 61 Arafura Games and 39 OPC

Competition Details:

The 2011 Arafura Games Athletics competition will be host to Track and Field, and Road Events, and incorporate the Oceania Paralympic Championships. A select number of Track and Field events will host an Under 18 and Open division, with all remaining events classified as Open.

Half Marathon Information

Athlete Pre Race Briefing will be held at Lake Alexander on Friday 13 May at 5.00pm.  The Officials / Volunteers Briefing will then follow at 5.30pm.

Please note that the race start time has been bought forward to 6.45am.

Eligibility/Entry Standards:

Athletes wishing to compete at the Games should first review the Entry Standards in place for 2011 Arafura Games.

Events will be conducted in two age divisions;

Under 18 – athletes turning 17 by 31 December 2011
Open – all competitors 18 years and above.

*Under 18 athletes may compete as an Open competitor.

All participating athletes must be a minimum of 15 years of age by 31 December 2011.

Athletes with a disability competing in the Oceania Paralympic Championships will be required to meet the Entry Standards as set out by the Oceania Paralympic Committee. These standards are available by visiting the Paralympic Events section of this website.

Endorsement:

All participants must be endorsed by their Regional or National Sporting Body before registration is finalised and accepted. Endorsement information is provided at time of registration and should be granted prior to registering any athletes to ensure there are no delays in the process.

Training Information:

Athletes will be able to train at Arafura Stadium prior to and during the Arafura Games. Training will not be permitted during competition sessions. Please contact Athletics NT on +61 8 8945 1979 or via email at athletics@arafuragames.net to arrange a time.

Managers Meeting:

A (Team) Managers Meeting will be held prior to the commencement of competition. All managers or participant representatives are expected to attend this meeting. Further information will be provided closer to the event.

Medal Ceremony:

Medal Ceremony schedules will be provided closer to the event. It is expected that all medal winners will be in full team attire in order to receive their medals. The Organising Committee reserves the right to refuse an athlete participation in a ceremony should they not be appropriately attired.
