Boxing General Information

Competition Dates: 9 - 13 May
Competition Venue: Arafura Central, Marrara Sports Complex

Competition Details:

Always hotly contested, the 2011 Arafura Games Boxing competition will be open to amateur male and female boxers over 17 years of age. The only AIBA sanctioned international tournament in Australia will be contested in divisions ranging from Light Fly weight to Super Heavy Weight.
Boxers will be matched according to their weight, age and experience.

Eligibility/Entry Standards:

Novice and Junior boxers are not eligible to compete in this tournament. Each team will be permitted two boxers in each division who will not face each other until the final round of that division.

IMPORTANT: All boxers must posses an International Competition Record Book and be certified as fit to box by a qualified Doctor of Medicine. This should be completed prior to arriving in Darwin, and certification of fitness should not be older than one year.

Weigh-in, draws and boxing will be conducted in accordance with AIBA (International Boxing Association) and Boxing Australian rules.

The draw will be announced on completion of the first Weigh-in on Monday 9 May at the competition venue. Weigh-in will occur on each day of competition at the competition venue (Marrara Indoor Stadium).

Weigh in times as follows:

First day of competition:   Men 8am to 10am                    Women 10am to 11am

Subsequent competition days:  Men 8am to 9am            Women 9am to 10am

Categories as follows:

Men: 46kg-49kg, 49kg-52kg, 52kg-56kg, 56kg-60kg, 60kg-64kg, 64kg-69kg, 69kg-75kg, 75kg-81kg, 81kg-91kg, 91+ kg
Women: 45kg-48kg, 48kg-51kg, 51kg-54kg, 54kg-57kg, 57kg-60kg, 60kg-64kg, 64kg-69kg, 69kg-75kg, 75kg–81kg, 81+ kg

Endorsement:

All boxers must be endorsed by the relevant AIBA National Federation. Registration will not be finalised and accepted until endorsement is received. Endorsement information is provided at time of registration and should be gained by the appropriate organisation prior to registering any athletes to ensure there are no delays in the process.

Managers Meeting:

A Managers Meeting will be held prior to the commencement of competition. All Team Managers are expected to attend this meeting. Further information will be provided closer to the Games.

Medal Ceremony:

The Medal Ceremony for each division will be conducted on the completion of each Finals bout. It is expected that all medal winners will be in team attire in order to receive their medals. The Organising Committee reserves the right to refuse an athlete to participation in a ceremony should they not be appropriately attired.
