IPSC shooting matches are based on the principle of accuracy, power and speed
As well as accuracy, the time taken is part of the final score. Therefore the quicker a competitor completes a stage, the better their final score will be
IPSC was founded at a conference held in Columbia, Missouri, in May 1976

Range officers have the task of enforcing the match safety rules out on the range
A variety of target types are used: both paper and steel, stationery and moving, scoring targets and penalty targets
Males, females and juniors all compete together over exactly the same stages, but only one competitor shoots at a time

Shooting - Pistol IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) General Information

Competition Details:

The 2011 Arafura Games IPSC Pistol competition is sanctioned by IPSC International as a Level III shoot, and will be combined with the National Shotgun and National Rifle Championships.

Over 250 competitors took part in the shoot in 2009, with the scenic Acacia range proving a hit with domestic and international participants alike.

Eligibility/Entry Standards:

IMPORTANT: Athletes are responsible for completing their application for an International Visitors Permit prior to your arrival in Australia.  An Information Sheet and Application Form can be found by visiting the Rules and Regulations section of this website.

Endorsement:

All teams/athletes must be endorsed by the relevant International/National Federation. Registration will not be finalised and accepted until endorsement is received. Endorsement information is provided at time of registration and should be gained by the appropriate organisation prior to registering any athletes to ensure there are no delays in the process.

Managers Meeting:

A pre-competition Managers Meeting will be held prior to the event commencing. All Team Managers are expected to attend this meeting.

Medal Ceremony:

Information on the medal ceremonies for IPSC Pistol will be provided closer to the event.
