Weightlifting General Information

Competition Details:
Positioned as one of the strongest events on the sports program, the 2011 Arafura Games Weightlifting competition is sanctioned by the Oceania Weightlifting Federation and will incorporate the Oceania Weightlifting Championships and South Pacific Weightlifting Championships.
With elite athletes from around the Oceania region expected to compete, the competition is an outstanding opportunity for athletes to gain international experience against leading lifters.
The following weight categories will be contested for the Arafura Games Open and Junior (U 17), Oceania Championships Open and Junior (U20) and South Pacific Championships Open and Junior (U20):
Men
56kg, 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg, 94kg, 105kg, 105+kg
Women
48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 75kg, 75+kg
The following categories will be contested as part of the Oceania Youth Championships (U17):
Men
50kg, 56kg, 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg, 94kg, 94+kg
Women
44kg, 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 69+kg
The bi-athlon competition will see athletes competing in two lifts - the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk. Lifters will have three attempts at each discipline and the aggregate will determine the winner in each division.
The 2011 Powerlifting Oceania Paralympic Championships will be run in conjunction with this event.

Eligibility/Entry Standards:
Athletes must meet their National Federation qualifying standards to be eligible for participation in the competition.
Endorsement:
All teams must be endorsed by the relevant National Federation. Registration will not be finalised and accepted until endorsement is received. Endorsement information is provided at time of registration and should be gained by the appropriate organisation prior to registering any athletes to ensure there are no delays in the process.
Training Information:
Training will be available prior to competition commencing at the Northern Territory Institute of Sport. Further information will be provided closer to the event. All lifters wishing to train will need to pre-book their session prior to arriving in Darwin. Managers Meeting:
A pre-competition Managers Meeting will be held prior to the first session. All Team Managers are expected to attend this meeting.
Further information will be provided closer to the Games.
Medal Ceremony:
Final information on the Medal Ceremonies will be provided shortly. It is expected that all medal winners will be in full team attire in order to receive their medals. The Organising Committee reserves the right to refuse an athlete participation in a ceremony should they not be appropriately attired.
